How the favorite Pokemon picker works
- Tap a square. Each square in the favorite Pokemon picker stands for one type and one generation, for example Water types from Johto. A list opens with every Pokemon that fits.
- Choose your favorite. Scroll the list or type a name or Pokedex number to search. Tap a Pokemon and it drops into the square.
- Fill the edges. The last column asks for your favorite Pokemon of each type across all generations. The bottom row asks for your favorite Pokemon from each region. The gold corner square is your number one favorite Pokemon of all.
- Save or share. “Save image” downloads the whole favorite Pokemon grid as a PNG. “Copy share link” gives you a link that opens your exact picks.
You do not have to finish in one go. The favorite Pokemon picker remembers your squares on this device, so you can come back later. If you only care about a few types, fill those and leave the rest blank, or press “Fill the rest at random” and fix the ones that look wrong.
What is in this favorite Pokemon picker
The favorite Pokemon picker covers all 1,025 Pokemon in the National Pokedex, from Bulbasaur (#1) to Pecharunt (#1025). They are spread across 199 squares:
- 162 type and generation squares. Eighteen types down the side, nine generations across the top. One square, Dark type in Kanto, has no Pokemon and is left out, so 161 can be filled.
- 18 favorite-by-type squares, one per type, any generation.
- 9 favorite-by-region squares, one each for Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, Kalos, Alola, Galar and Paldea.
- 1 overall favorite Pokemon.
- 9 special categories, listed below.
A Pokemon with two types shows up under both. Gyarados is offered as a Water type and as a Flying type, and you can pick it for either square or for both.
Special categories
- Favorite Starter (81 to choose from)
- Favorite Legendary (71 to choose from)
- Favorite Mythical (23 to choose from)
- Favorite Pseudo-legendary (10 to choose from)
- Favorite Eeveelution (9 to choose from)
- Favorite Fossil (25 to choose from)
- Favorite Baby (19 to choose from)
- Favorite Ultra Beast (11 to choose from)
- Favorite Paradox (22 to choose from)
Starter includes all three stages of every starter line, so you can pick Charizard or Greninja and not only the first form. Pseudo-legendary means the ten fully evolved Pokemon with a base stat total of 600 that come from a three-stage line, from Dragonite to Baxcalibur.
How many Pokemon are in each square
This table shows how many choices the favorite Pokemon picker gives you in every square. The hardest square to fill is Poison type from Kanto, with 33 Pokemon to choose from. Several squares have only 1, such as Dragon type from Johto, where the pick makes itself.
| Type | Kanto | Johto | Hoenn | Sinnoh | Unova | Kalos | Alola | Galar | Paldea | All |

Row totals are higher than the number of Pokemon because dual types are counted once for each of their types. The bottom row counts every Pokemon once: 151 from Kanto, 156 from Unova, which is the largest generation, and 72 from Kalos, the smallest.
Tips for a better favorite Pokemon grid
- Start with the corner. Pick your number one favorite Pokemon first. It makes the type and region rows easier, because you already know one answer in each.
- Do the big squares early. Water, Normal and Grass have the most Pokemon to choose from, so those rows take the longest. Ice is the shortest row.
- Use the search box. In a big list, typing “char” is faster than scrolling to Charizard. A Pokedex number works as well.
- Compare with friends. Send your share link and ask for theirs. Two favorite Pokemon grids next to each other show quickly who grew up with which generation.
- Post the image. The saved picture is sized for social posts and has the type and generation labels on it, so it makes sense without an explanation.
What this favorite Pokemon picker does not do yet
Each species appears once, with the types of its original form. Mega Evolutions, Gigantamax forms and regional forms such as Alolan Vulpix or Hisuian Zoroark are not separate choices yet. Categories some other favorite Pokemon picker grids have, such as favorite regional bird or favorite Pikachu clone, are not here either. If one of those is the reason you came, the contact address at the bottom of the page is the place to ask for it.
Favorite Pokemon picker questions
What is a favorite Pokemon picker?
A favorite Pokemon picker is a grid where every square asks one question, such as your favorite Fire type from Hoenn. You fill the squares, and the finished grid shows your taste in Pokemon at a glance. This favorite Pokemon picker has one square for each type in each generation, plus special categories.
How many Pokemon are in this favorite Pokemon picker?
All 1,025 Pokemon in the National Pokedex, from Bulbasaur to Pecharunt, across nine generations. Each one appears in every square it qualifies for, so a dual-type Pokemon such as Charizard can be picked as a Fire type or a Flying type.
Is the favorite Pokemon picker free?
Yes. The favorite Pokemon picker is free, has no sign-up, and works in the browser on phones and computers. Your picks are stored on your own device.
How do I share my favorite Pokemon grid?
Press “Save image” to download the grid as a PNG you can post anywhere, or press “Copy share link” to copy a link that opens your exact picks in the favorite Pokemon picker.
Why is the Dark type square for Kanto empty?
No Pokemon introduced in Generation 1 has the Dark type. The type was added in Generation 2, and the Kanto Pokemon that later gained Dark-type regional forms are counted under their original typing here.
Are Mega Evolutions and regional forms included?
Not as separate entries yet. Each species appears once, with the types of its original form. Alolan, Galarian, Hisuian and Paldean forms, Mega Evolutions and Gigantamax forms are on the list of things to add.
Can I pick the same Pokemon more than once?
Yes. If Gengar is your favorite Ghost type, your favorite Poison type and your favorite Kanto Pokemon, the favorite Pokemon picker lets you put it in all three squares.
What does “Fill the rest at random” do?
It fills every empty square with a random Pokemon that fits, and leaves the squares you already picked alone. It is a quick way to get a full grid, then swap out the ones you disagree with.
